I Had a Different Topic In Mind for This Week, But ...

A few weeks ago, I noticed how many rough drafts of posts I've written on writing and preparing to write. I also noticed that my topic list keeps getting longer.

Yes, writing is complicated.

But yesterday, after I sat down to polish up a final draft of a post on considering perspectives, I just couldn't do it. After the plane crash in DC on Wednesday night, my heart hurt for all the families broken and all the dreams ended.

And given what's happening in and to the US government, I can't bring myself to give you writing tips at the moment. We can work on improving our craft another day.

I spent a good chunk of the weekend looking into how to make a difference right now.

As I said last week, use your own authentic voice to write. Write where and when it makes sense to write. You may have noticed that certain online chatter is low at the moment. Stay hopeful. Think positive murmurs.

Stay on top of what's happening, and contact your reps at the local, state, and federal level. If you choose to write emails, keep them concise, and keep them coming. If you're inclined, you can write your thoughts by hand and deliver your letter to your rep's state office.

Your voice does matter. unding freezes are still occurring. See this article: https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-state-department-usaid-humanitarian-aid-freeze-ukraine-gaza-sudan

On the writing front, this past weekend Anand Giridharadas dropped this article on Big Tech's drive to "replace all the writers": https://open.substack.com/pub/anandwrites/p/special-report-in-the-room-where?r=cj815&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

Am I tired? Yes. Am I weak? No.

Carry on, my fellow creatives. Let's drive thought and change.
